'

What's the game actually like? It's part visual novel and part turn based battle system. High School DxD is slated for release on November 28 on Nintendo 3DS.

In most Pokémon RPGs, you get your starter Pokémon from the game’s Pokémon Professor. However, this won’t be the case in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, Nintendo and Game Freak shared in a Nintendo Direct presentation this morning.

In Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, you’ll receive your starter Pokémon from one of your friends within the game. As previously detailed, X and Y’s choice of starters are Chespin, Fennekin and Froakie. Once you choose one of these three Pokémon, you’ll begin your journey.

Youll Get Bulbasaur, Charmander And Squirtle In Pokémon X And Pokémon Y

However, you’ll also get another Pokémon from Professor Sycamore, the professor in X and Y. Sycamore will allow you to choose one of the three original starters from Pokémon Red/Blue—Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle. Additionally, all three of them will have their very own Mega Evolutions in the game as well.

The Difference Between Designing Final Fantasy XIV And Dragon Quest X

The Difference Between Designing Final Fantasy XIV And Dragon Quest X

Both Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy have numbered titles that are also MMORPGs and Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn director Naoki Yoshida worked on both titles. Yoshida started his career at Square Enix working on the Dragon Quest: Monster Battle Road arcade game and then was the chief planner on Dragon Quest X. When Square Enix decided Final Fantasy XIV needed a reboot, Yoshida took on the role as the director and producer of A Realm Reborn.

'

Since Yoshida has a unique perspective on Square Enix's two main MMORPGs, Siliconera asked Yoshida about the differences between developing Dragon Quest X and Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.

'

"I not only worked on Dragon Quest X, but various other Dragon Quest games. When working in all Dragon Quest projects, the theme is not about complexity but having a game that's really easy to get into. That's not just for an online Dragon Quest game, but all Dragon Quest games. And so when making Dragon Quest X, yes it is a MMORPG, but it had to act and feel like a regular Dragon Quest and follow those rules," Yoshida said to Siliconera.

'

"To have that really solo type of feel, there's a feature in which you can register your character in an inn, to allow other characters borrow your character as an NPC party member. You're creating a party with other people's characters, but they're not being controlled by other people. So even though you have this MMORPG, which is all about partying with other people, you're not partying with other people. It's an MMORPG that's not an MMORPG, but doing that is something you have to do for the Dragon Quest series."

'

The Difference Between Designing Final Fantasy XIV And Dragon Quest X

'

"Whereas, when designing Final Fantasy XIV, we knew that we wanted to get into the hands of hardcore MMO players but also reach out to players that have never played them before. We wanted to reach out to those Final Fantasy fans, knowing that a lot of Final Fantasy fans have never played a MMO before, perhaps because they are very intimidated by the genre. We wanted A Realm Reborn to feel like you're playing a regular Final Fantasy, for those first few levels. The game design has it so you're playing solo [initially], and to go 'wow, this isn't as hard as I thought', maybe because you don't have to talk to other players during those first 15 levels.

'

But during those levels, we want to show them, from 0 to 100, what is a MMO and get that knowledge to those players. Once we have that, we can introduce those global standard MMO features, with the biggest feature being partying up. We didn't want to go the Dragon Quest X route; that discourages working with other people. Instead we worked on our party matching system, our duty finder system. By taking the burden of creating a party and making it easy, with a matching system that does everything automatically. You don't have to go out there, you don't have to be proactive; with just a press of a button, you can do all that," Yoshida continued.

'

The other major difference is Final Fantasy XIV was always planned for a worldwide release while Dragon Quest X has only been released in Japan thus far. Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is out now for PC and PS3. A PlayStation 4 version is also in development.

here's atelier escha logy's handsome hero in a countdown trailer

Heres Atelier Escha & Logys Handsome Hero In A Countdown Trailer

The Atelier Escha & Logy Countdown Festival is a series of videos by Gust that will be used to introduce some of the characters in anticipation of Atelier Escha & Logy: Alchemists of the Dusk Sky’s release later this month. The first part of the series focused on Escha Malier. The next is about the handsome and versatile swordsman/alchemist, Logix Fiscario.

Similar to the Escha edition of the video series, this video will share info that has already been revealed, but director Yoshito Okamura would like to take this opportunity to summarize some of it while showing some new footage and notes.

Heres Atelier Escha & Logys Handsome Hero In A Countdown Trailer

Logy and Escha have both been assigned to help out at the development team as new officials. Unlike Escha, Logy isn’t from the area and was actually sent from a city of alchemical studies called The Center. As you advance through the story, you will understand more about Logy’s past events.

Okamura notes that this will be the first time they have both male and female protagonists for the series, so he has repeatedly adjusted the contents for Logy’s events, as he aims to get as many players possible to like him.

As a main character of the Atelier series, Gust have made Logy into a naturally acceptable protagonist who doesn’t have any feelings of discomfort around other people or negative thoughts.

Logy might not excel at using items compared to Escha, but he’ll have plenty of skills aside from alchemy, which will make his play style completely different from his female counterpart. In addition, there will be plenty of status ups you’ll be getting from bonuses that will make Logy into an excellent frontline player in combat.

Heres Atelier Escha & Logys Handsome Hero In A Countdown Trailer

His damage output from items won’t be as strong as Escha’s either, but he’ll make up for it using his item compounding Blitz feature, which will even the gap between the two characters as they level up. Also, let’s not forget about the Double Draw skill that can be used to do even more damage with items.

Okamura also hints that they’ve prepared a high-end special item that will please Atelier fans, which he hopes you’ll get to try with the Double Draw to see for yourselves.

Atelier Escha & Logy: Alchemists of the Dusk Sky will be released in Japan on June 27th for PlayStation 3.

final fantasy iv the after years for ios hands on visual and aural nostalgia

Final Fantasy IV: The After Years For iOS Hands On Visual And Aural Nostalgia

As much as I love Final Fantasy IV I never got around to playing The After Years, the cell phone/WiiWare/PSP episodic sequel to Final Fantasy IV released 17 years after the original game. Even so, playing the iOS version felt very familiar.

'

The game starts off like the original Final Fantasy IV did, on an airship with the Red Wings theme playing in the background. Ceodore, our hero, doesn't have quite as much to cope with in the first few minutes as his father Cecil did. Whereas Cecil was wracked by guilt over the terrible things he'd done in the name of his King before his airship was attacked by monsters, all Ceodore has to do was talk to people. Moving Ceodore in Final Fantasy IV: The After Years for iOS was handled by putting your finger onscreen and moving it in one of eight directions. Sliding it further turned a walk into a run. When you were close enough to talk to someone, one tap anywhere when an exclamation mark was over someone's head starts a conversation.

'

Final Fantasy IV: The After Years For iOS Hands On Visual And Aural Nostalgia

'

Making Ceodore talk to everyone triggered a cutscene that involved him complaining about the test he had to face to join the Red Wings and Wedge, the ship's Captain, hitting him for his insolence.

'

The cutscene was a bit strange (aside from just having a grown man punch a child across an airship deck) because while it involved both choreography and lip flaps, there was no voice acting. Lines advanced and characters moved automatically, but things were silent aside from music and sound effects. I asked the attendant if the final game would have voice acting, and he said it would not' It still strikes me as strange that they'd add lip flaps for no voice work'

'

Final Fantasy IV: The After Years For iOS Hands On Visual And Aural Nostalgia

'

After arriving on Final Fantasy IV's Adamant Island, I had to steer Ceodore to the village of Mythril and spend the night at the inn to could enter the nearby cave during the full moon.

'

In the cave, I was introduced to the way moon phases affect combat (during the full moon, physical attacks did less damage and black magic did more), the bond system (which had Biggs and Wedge stand back to back with the camera spinning around them before slicing everything in their path), and the way that combat works with the touch screen (after selecting attack, you can tap on whoever you want to attack or choose them from the onscreen menu. Unfortunately, because my time was limited, I had to leave before finishing the entire cave.

'

Final Fantasy IV: The After Years For iOS Hands On Visual And Aural Nostalgia

'

Food for thought:

1. While the game deliberately apes the low-poly style of Final Fantasy IV for DS, it still looked very pretty on the tablet I was playing it on. Everything looks clean and runs smoothly, and that makes the low-poly style much more appealing. It also drove home the fact that Ceodore was significantly smaller and younger than his father was during Final Fantasy IV.

'

2. Every song in the game I heard was from the original Final Fantasy IV, note for note. While I love the music in FFIV, I would have liked to have heard new songs (or even more varied arrangements of the originals).

How To March And Stomp Your Way Through Dragon Quest Monster Parade (2)

How To March And Stomp Your Way Through Dragon Quest: Monster Parade

Last month, Square Enix announced a new Dragon Quest browser game titled Dragon Quest: Monster Parade which is called a “real time adventure parade” with many monsters from the series. Square Enix has released a bunch of browser games and while the business model has been well covered, how do these games actually play? Let's take a look at Dragon Quest: Monster Parade and find out.

'

Dragon Quest: Monster Parade will focus on caravan adventures similar to Dragon Quest Monsters: Caravan Heart for the Game Boy Advance. The game’s story starts when the King of Dreams gathers “Caravan Masters” from around the world to send them out on a journey to find the reincarnation of an ancient shrine maiden.

'

How To March And Stomp Your Way Through Dragon Quest: Monster Parade

Ever since he was a child, the silver-haired protagonist always dreamed of one day becoming a Caravan Master. His wish came true when the village elder asked if he’d like to take on the king’s request to find the young lady.

'

'How To March And Stomp Your Way Through Dragon Quest: Monster Parade How To March And Stomp Your Way Through Dragon Quest: Monster Parade

The goal in Dragon Quest: Monster Parade is simple, all you have to do is march your way from the start to the end with your caravan of friendly monsters who can take out foes that get in the way. Your monsters will always march in a straight line. It's up to you, the Caravan Master, to pick them up and place them in front of incoming enemies by clicking and dragging.

'

How To March And Stomp Your Way Through Dragon Quest: Monster Parade How To March And Stomp Your Way Through Dragon Quest: Monster Parade

Once you reach the end, a result screen will show how many monsters you defeated and any treasure acquired. This is followed by “Scout Chance” opportunity, where you’ll get to try recruiting monsters to join your caravan crew.

'

How To March And Stomp Your Way Through Dragon Quest: Monster Parade

Similar to Dragon Quest Monsters: Caravan Heart, your caravan can only hold a certain amount of weight. Each monster in the caravan makes the caravan heavier and you can see the amount of weight taken up in the parade setup screen. Stats underneath the monsters show their health points, magic points, rarity rank, and their weight indicated on the right part of their stats.

'

Some of the stronger monsters will be heavier, so players have to decide on whether it's more beneficial to have several weaker monsters or a few tough ones.

'

'

The field map consists of several stages and villages. As you explore further on the map, your caravan will encounter tougher enemies, so it’ll be important to always have a reliable party of monsters on your side.

'

An open-beta phase for Dragon Quest:Monster Parade will be starting on August 22nd. While you're waiting you can watch a gameplay demo here.
